Αmarandos Sea View Apartments in Mastihochoria
Vokaria is situated 1km downhill from Nenita, which is one of the biggest mastic producing villages of Chios island and a very vital place with more than thousand inhabitants. This village derived its name from the Greek word of "neoktita" which means "newly purchased/built"and refers to the farmlands and buildings of the region that were acquired in the 16th century.
Once a medieval village with fortress and fortified houses like the ones you can still find in Mesta or Olympi,the village was for a great part destroyed in the disastrous earthquake of 1881,The ruins of the former village lay beneath the spacious plateia(or village square) of nowdays Nenita.
The Monastery of Taxiarchon was built in 1305 and houses an icon of Arcangel Michael.Recently botanical garden was built on the steep hills of Agios Trifonas, next to another monastery, which has one the most spectacular views of the whole island.
